Daniel Karlsson Trio

JAZZ GROUP

Daniel Karlsson Trio signs to HOWLING JAZZ!!! A Divison of Bark At Your Owner and label part of the CMG Holdings group based in Solna Stockholm, Sweden.

BIO

The three musicians Daniel Karlsson, Christian Spering and Fredrik Rundqvist were musically raised and created through the Stockholm jazz scene were musicians like Bobo Stenson, Palle Danielsson, Esbjörn Svensson a.o used to appear and inspire every week. DKT is sprouted via this flourishing environment and was founded 2010.

The Daniel Karlsson Trio have, since their album debut Das Taxibåt in September 2013, established themselves as one of the most interesting constellations in Swedish and European jazz. 2014 the trios second outing ”Fusion for Fish” brought them a hattrick in Music Awards. Swedish Grammis, National Swedish Radio’s award ”Jazzkatt” and Magazine OJ’s ” Gyllene skivan (=Gold Record)”.

This in all in combination with frequent radio airplay in Europe and the acknowledgment in European press who opened the door into the international market for the band. Another four album have been released since. More attention has followed such as grammy nominees, airplay, live concerts in radio and, lately, the Swedish prize Jazzkannan -21.

The sound in the band has a wide spectra of influences across genres. They’ve been described as playful and fearless of taboos. You can sense the Nordic melancholy between the flirts with rhythms from other continents as well as Soul of the sixties. All played in an unmistakable personal way and with a sound sparsely enriched by modern electronics.

Their personal presence on stage has become their earmark. During the last years and numerous tours all over Europe the band has developed it’s relation to it’s music and audience. Now focusing on telling the unwritten story to the listener. There is always a message in music, unique for each and every receiver. Communicating this inner journey is the core of the trios current work. Not chasing for the hippest chord or trying to live up to jazzy expectations.

Shoulder Pads

Shoulder Pads is a straight forward uptempo tune in 5/8. The dress up of the trios acoustic recording is a flirt with the eighties. A recollection of the musical universe of a piano studying teenager with Idols like Pat Metheney and Yellow Jackets stitched to the wall paper. This tune breathes faith in future and eagerness to experience it.
Released Sept 2, 2022

The new single is titled “Shoulder Pads”. As always, at the core, the acoustic piano trio with a topping of electronics added to the mix. Fredrik Rundqvist on drums and Christian Spering on bass.

The new EP “Climbing The Ladder” comes October 14th!

Climbing The Ladder Ep

The EP Climbing the Ladder has, once again, been created and recorded in Daniel’s home studio on the island of Runmarö in the scenic Stockholm Archipelago. Surrounded by the silence and darkness of the Baltic sea.

NEW AND UPCOMING RELEASES

Now after a lengthy touring following the release of the previous EP “Climbing The Ladder” which had tracks on Spotify’s biggest Contemporary Jazz Playlist and making the Worldwide Editorial YouTube Contemporary Jazz Playlist, The new album ‘’SORRY BOSS” is set for release Oct 6. It will be released as LP/CD/Digital.

In January Daniel went to Italy for writing music for a new album. Without particular source of inspiration he decided to seek it from daily life and what it actually looks like.A pianist and bandleader tasks consists of paperworks, applications, planning, buying travels etc…

Loads of office work, always made in the last minute, before you reach your little heaven on stage.

The title Sorry Boss came up during the trio’s UK tour in the fall -2022. During some off days the band hired an apartment on ground floor in Birmingham. Already the first day workers started to carve away concrete from the courtyard. The unbearable noice made it impossible to stay in the apartment. After going on for some days the workers started saying:  - Sorry Boss, Sorry Boss, to the guys when they entered the courtyard to reach the apartment door.

They realised pretty soon that this will be their next album.A few months later after a recovery of a drummers foot (middle aged men should not play hockey) the album was recorded in a very messy living room on Runmarö. The man cave of the band leader.
